How do I get old digital camera pictures onto my new digital camera?
I just got a new Nikon Coolpix camera and I really like it, only I like being able to scroll old pictures I've taken with my camera. I plugged my memory card into my computer, transferred all of the photos to the new Nikon photo folder in the memory card and hoped that they would then show up. That didn't work though. Does anyone have any suggestions? They are all just jpg files and I don't see why my new camera can't see them in the play mode while I can see them in the memory card folder.

- This is normal. If a picture is edited and put back or is from a different source (your other camera) it wont show up. This is specified in the Coolpix manual. I have a TZ3 and have experienced this before. From my experience I have learnt that its better to store pictures on your PC for viewing. Viewing pictures on the cameras LCD eats up your battery and will run out when you want to take a picture.
- Cameras are not made to be a photo viewer--and certainly not with the files from another camera. (Sometimes it works, but most of the time it does not). They have to be in a specific directory (folder) and named a certain way (you just can't name it your way). Not worth the trouble even if it works because the other answer is correct-wearing out your batteries gets expensive even if they're rechargeable ones.
- when you moved the files, you should have placed them in the DCIM folder. this is where 9 times out of 10 you pictures are
- As the other said, most of the time it might not work, it wasn't designed for that. You'll need to save it in a jpg format that the camera recognize. e.g. resolution, number of colors, which color standard, exif information, mode, etc. I had a DigCam that doesn't work and let my 3y.o. play with it filled with pooh bear pictures I donwloaded from the net. I took one of the pictures from the original cameras, or at least one that is viewable, I opened it in an image editing software and cut and paste the pictures I downloaded in to that picture. I still needed to save it with the correct resolution, color depth, mode, etc. It worked great. See if that works with yours.
