Camera New

How can I format my memory card for a new camera?

I bought a new camera (Canon elfe 8.0) and inserted a 512 MB memory card which i had used in my old Kodak easyshare 5.0. It tells me the card is locked (which it isn't) and Memory Card Error. I was able to format another memory card (of the same brand) with the new camera, but it fills up quickly and I need my backup card! What can i do so I can use this memory card again?

  1. Put it in the new camera... go thru your menu options to memory and choose "erase all" under memory card. These are general names for your choices as they will defer with different cameras.
  2. Your card fills up quickly because you are producing much larger size image files. Why don't you buy a couple of 1GB cards (under $15 each) and be done with it. Backing up the images on your card is as simple as copying all of the images to your hard drive and then burn the files to a CD. Since your old card probably has a "lifetime" guarantee, after you have copied all the images to your computer, send it back to the manufacturer for a replacement. You will of course have to contact their customer service people and get an RMA, but such is the world of returning merchandise in today's world
  3. Put that memory card in camera, go into Menu Options and go in Memory card. There should be an option of Formating. Hope you find it.
  4. The camera will have to be in Playback mode, then go through the menu to find Format. As already mentioned cards are cheap so don't spend a lot of time on this, just get new cards.
