Camera New

How do I connect my new JVC camcorder to my computer to watch videos and such?

It came with one cable, but that was to hook it up to my TV and DVD player...

  1. It must have a firewire connection. If so, you'll need to get a firewire cable. If it doesn't, you'll need to get a video card that has standard RCA inputs.
  2. The previous answer is right. It will, almost definitely, have socket for connecting it to your computer. This will be either firewire or USB. You may already know this, so sorry if it is patronizing, but here are some picture of what the firewire socket will look like (either one, probably the smaller): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c5/FireWire-46_Diagram.svg/430px-FireWire-46_Diagram.svg.png or the USB port (a socket to fit a plug that looks like one of these, probably the one on the right): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ad/Mini_usb_AB.jpg JVC often use flaps or other covers to hide the sockets, so have a careful look, or consult the manual. Once you know what type of socket you have, you'll have to buy the appropriate cable - just about anywhere will have them. If it is USB, then you're good to go with hooking it up to your computer. If it's firewire then you might not have a firewire socket on your computer, in which case you'll need a firewire card or similar; these are inexpensive. Something like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/78455 Once you have the cable, and firewire card if necessary, you will need to install the software that came with the camera on CD. That should give you instructions for transferring your movies to the computer. If you're camera definitely doesn't have such a socket (what model is it, by the way?) then ask again and I'll tell you what you can do then. Hope this helps and wasn't too patronizing.
